The Pawsey Centre will comprise a purpose-built building, housing a petascale supercomputing system and associated works at Kensington, Western Australia.
To be constructed six kilometres from Perth’s CBD on CSIRO-owned land adjacent to the CSIRO’s existing Australian Resources Research Centre facility at Technology Park, Bentley, the Pawsey Centre will also encompass infrastructure housed at iVEC@Murdoch and iVEC@UWA.
This project will contribute to the development of world-class supercomputing expertise among the high-end research user community and iVEC staff, through the installation of approx 150 teraflops of supercomputing capacity at existing iVEC Facilities in the first 18 months of the project – and, consequently, enhancement of the intellectual capability relating to the use of supercomputing facilities to support high-end research.
The new facilities will also incorporate green building initiatives to minimise impact on the environment and best practice technologies to minimise energy usage.
